How my past life drive me to chase my dream now
When I was young, my dream changed from becoming a teacher, an engineer, a pilot to an actress, but never a doctor. However, an incident that happened last year changed my mind, and now, I am determined than ever that I want to be a doctor. It is indeed gratifying and heartening to see how doctors save thousands or millions of lives.
During last year of February, my grandfather was admitted to the hospital because he was suffering from stroke and lung infections and was in a comma. The doctor told us that his chance of survival was very low. When my family and I heard this, we became so desperate and tears started to roll down our cheeks. We really could not accept that my beloved grandfather would be leaving us soon. When the doctor saw this, he tried to console us and promised that he would try his best to save my grandfather. We had no other choices but to put our trust in the doctor. Five days later, we received a call from the hospital that my grandfather had awaken and his condition was stable. All of my family members heaved a sigh of relieve and rushed to the hospital immediately. When we reached the hospital, the doctor was there and we thanked him immensely. He replied, "My job as a doctor is to save lives and I always hope that my patients will be in good health." It was at that moment that I realized that doctor is a noble job and I made up my mind to be a doctor.
When I decided to take up medicine as my main course, many people asked me, "Are you sure that you want to take the risk? It will be a tough journey for you. Are you sure you can do it?" I looked at them with my determined eyes and told them, "Yes, I am very sure. Nothing can stop me from becoming a doctor. I want to try my very best to treat my patients and save lives." Since that incident, my love for Biology has increased tremendously. When I study Biology, I gained valuable understanding of the workings of human body. The human body makes us what we are today.
After taking SPM, I had to choose a medical university as a platform to pursue my dream. Since Malaysia has quite a number of medical universities, I had a hard time making decision. To be honest, IMU was not my first choice. I was enrolled to another medical university for two weeks and I found out that it did not suit me for some reasons.Therefore, I withdrew from the university and transferred to IMU. Once I stepped into IMU, I knew that I have made the right decision. The program provided is holistic and prepares the students for their future careers. I believe that I will gain a fruitful of knowledge and wonderful experiences in IMU. I have to work extra hard in order to achieve my dream. When I succeed to be a doctor one day, I will treat all my patients equally and there will be no discrimination, regardless of their races, status and backgrounds.
